The Likeness by Tana French

"The Likeness" by Tana French is a sequel to "In the Woods" (which I have yet to read but is now on my list!).  Usually I prefer to read stories in order but a friend of mine gave this to me for my birthday ages ago and I finally got around to reading it (just another instance of not reading books on the shelf).  It is a mystery story, where the main character, Cassie, goes undercover posing as the murder victim who looks exactly like her and has been using an alias that Cassie created for a previous case.  While undercover Cassie becomes drawn deeper and deeper into the world of 5 close knit college friends living in an old manor house.  I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the others in this series.  It was smart and engrossing and reminded me of "The Secret History" by Donna Tart.  Both of these books feature close knit groups of odd intellectual college students.  Cassie becomes engrossed in the world of these friends and I did as well.  The most beautiful/ horrible part of this novel is that as it draws to it's inevitable conclusion, you just don't want it to be true.  This book features some intriguing insight into friendship and love as well as a wonderfully paced procedural mystery.  I highly recommend it.
